Just installed Novell Client 4.83 on out win NT workstations to see if it would cure our lockup problems.

Any resized bitmap that is not exactly the same as the image area disapears. Resize appears to be failing with the new client.

Any observations would be appreciated…

By the way - excellent CeBit stand and user group meeting here in Sydney with Revelation and Spretzzatura in attendance - the future looks rosey (except for Novell).

Bob,

Did you apply the VIPX fix? Also there is another patch - havnt caught up with this yet.

I have had seen no bitmap issues on 4.83. Have been using 4.83 / WinXP since Jan (well the 4.83 might be slightly more recent) daily for development - in single user on Novell - and am very pleased. My own tests for multi-user on Novell 5.1 including mix with Arev and even switching to NTService on same workstation have turned up trumps. Everything sweat-as. But thus far no production experience.

Hoping to go live next week.

Can we have a report on CeBit, observations, reflections? What did we miss out on?

Bob, you may be able to use the code in this link to pre-test the image dimensions. Haven't seen the behaviour you mention. Try a different screen res to test if it is the video driver.

Richard,

At CEBIT there was a lot of interest in the OI32 product, and much interest from the Pick development community, who see OI32 as a way forward with better support and many future prospects.

As an indication, there were enquiries from government bodies, from education bodies, specialists in the health fields, first time developers and many who had specialist requirements of their development environments. Most CEBIT visitors who departed with an evaluation copy of OI32 and other promotional giveaways. The stand attracted hundreds of people over the three days. New and old faces came to visit.

At the user group meeting Mike Ruane detailed the history of Revelation Software, and outlined the direction for the next two years. Andrew McAuley from Sprezzatura demonstrated some tools for OI32 form creation and event management.

The discussion was opened up for questions - mostly technical to do with implementation.

The CEBIT conference and the Revelation User Group were well-attended with many Sydney guests plus interstate guests from South Australia and Victoria.

The schedule for the Las Vegas Conference was released in brochure form (looks stunning), and the number of potential attendees from Oz & NZ at the Vegas conference seems to be very high at this stage - more than ever before will be attending.

A great week - thanks to all those people who made the effort to attend.

Many thanks for CeBit Report.

Delighted to hear about the enthusiastic response to the great work RevSoft and you guys are doing. Particularly pleased to note the interest from Govt / Education / specialist health - who are conservative.

I know that in NZ Arev had significant uptake by Govt sectors but usage has wained over time for all the reasons we know including - if it ain't MS it is not OK.

Good pix and summary of the event from Sprez web site.

Thanks Richard Bright

Thanks for the reply

I hadn't installed the new vipx - I have now. I found about six patches for 4.83 none of which fixed the problem so we've gone back to 4.80. I believe the service pack 1 for 4.83 is due for release in beta this week - I'll try again with that. 4.83 did fix our OI lockup problems by the way.

We've decided to switch to win2000 server to eliminate the Novell nightmare anyway.

The Rev User Group meeting was terrific from an OI developers point of view. The product will continue to develope in new and exciting ways it would seem. I'm looking forward to being able to add third party controls in 4.1. And I'm especially interested in oengine as a dll and the OLEDB Com object making it much easier to get at the data from outside of OI. They are even playing with Linear Hash as a result of the busting of the 64k limit (potential speed increases).

Seeing Revelation product demonstrations at a major it event was great. Last time I say that was about 1992. There's life in the old beast yet.

It proved to be the video driver, but as to why an upgrade of a Novell client should screw up the video driver it's anyone's guess.

Could be because the taskbar Novell icon is forcing the video mode. We've seen this with other taskbar applications (that make "Age of Empires" minimize on laptops).

Glad to see that you've identified the culprit. It was great to see you at CEBIT and the Sydney Rev User Group meeting.

A while ago I thought we were talking to ourselves but in this last glorious year RevSoft and product has done a quantum leap and now seems to be really getting traction in the market.
