Your choice as I understand is to configure Filemaker Pro for ODBC access. The documentation on how to configure this is in Section 11.5 of the latest FM training.

The other possibility if using FilemakerPro version 12 is to access the SQL db directly. I have been told this is possible but do not know how. (SQL dummy).

Thanks Gary,

OI has the ability to setup, within OI, access to SQL databases to read and write data automatically.

We would like to have the same ability in OI toaccess Filemaker Pro files.

In other words, not to have to change settings in FM as this would be required in many sites, but to setup our OI application to read/write to FM files.

Are you looking to use FM as the back end instead of Linear Hash?

From what I read they have ODBC drivers. You could define an ODBC connection to the databases, then possibly use the SQL connector. You might have to build the shadow dictionaries by hand, or I could work with you to extend the SQL bfs to build dictionaries automatically. I'm not sure how robust / standard their driver is. I fould posts by others recommending the web interface as the best way for an external app to work with their data.

Thanks Bob,

We have an OI App but wish to copy data from FM Files into the OI Databases.

IE there are 2 systems running.

One if FM and one OI.

We want the OI App to read the data from the FM files and write the data into the OI files.

I would look at their Web interface to accomplish your objective. From what I read it sounded like the most stable approach. You cna use OLE_GETWEBPAGE from within OI to make the web calls and get the results programmatically

Thanks again Bob

Both the OI and FM systems are on the same server therefore should be able to have direct access to the FM data.

The OI system requires data out of the FM system, to be extracted at any time by the OI system.

I was hoping that someone had already done this.

I feel it is relatively simple to do, but finding how to do it is not so obvious.
