Has anyone written an ID (1 and 2) tag read/write routine. If so would they be willing to share?

Found this on the web:

Seems like a good starting point. I also came across the following definition in another program:

/* Tag Definition

The ID3 Information is stored in the last 128 bytes of an MP3 file.

The ID3 has the following fields, and the offsets given here, are from 0-127

 	Field       Length            offsets
 	-------------------------------------
 	Tag           3                0-2
 	Songname     30                3-32
 	Artist       30                33-62
 	Album        30                63-92
 	Year          4                93-96
 	Comment      30                97-126
 	Genre         1                127

*/

Which is really only part of the picture, after looking at a few MP3s in a hex editor. I was able to read THIS information at the end of a file with a simple OI script, but there's definitely more to be covered as you'll see in the first link.

I hate posts like this - too interesting not to spend some time on it.

Karl,

forgot to mention .. you are right about 128bits but only on 1.x version of the tagging system.

version 2+ started putting everything on the beginning of the file with encoded bytes for size etc. must have been a bit head

Well first there's the bandana, blue, preferably worn on the head rather than out of the left or right back pocket. Then you might want to work on your c-walk - not forgetting your gang signs… practice your shoutouts "Props to my developer dawgs from the wes'side - aighht?!"
