We have several clients wanting to use Microsoft DirectAccess for their users to run our OpenInsight (v9.4.4) application from home, rather than use Remote Desktop through a VPN. With any performance issues aside, is this even possible? Are the issues for the Linear Hash service much the same as for a traditional VPN, or is it different?

BTW, In my experience the issue with remote desktop and printing is that the remotedesktop software will ask the home machine what printers it has, then try to read the printer drivers from the office server. Unless you install a wide range of printer drivers on the office machine you will encounter problems printing.

Yeap, we're not looking to separate out OI components to the home computers - just keep everything on the server at work. It sounds like the LH service can be configured to work across the internet via Always on VPN without getting FS errors - performance issues aside. Although ideally a Remote Desktop connection to the work computer is optimal, and the easiest to set up.

My clients use Parallels 2X for remote workers that don't have an onsite computer at the office. This works very well. Printer and local drive access is well offered. You can publish just OpenInsight, and/or Arev32, or a Desktop where OpenInsight and Arev32 can be run.

We have no on premises servers and are 100% Azure based. We have a terminal server in Azure with OI on it and we have been successfully using DirectAccess for the last few years now with little to no issues.

The only time it can be slow is when saving a file from the OI session down to a local machine with lots of folders to enumerate. We don't have a lot of this type of work though so not really an issue for us.

As Bob mentions DA hasn't seen much in the way of updates from MS recently and I think they want everyone to move to always on. We haven't tried that yet but will likely be looking at it in the future.
