When I have multiple apps running and toggle to an app from oi and back to oi, on occasion I see images from the other app "bleed" through. Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix?

Thanks

Usually it can point to Windows not having sufficient resources to update the video array. It often happens if (a) one process is monopolizing the CPU, either through calculations or by displaying a system modal windows dialog (b) if application shortcuts on the windows Desktop are marked "Exclusive in Foreground" © your video driver is buggy (d) there is device contention for DMA or interrupt resources (say a video driver or screen uses the same interrupt as another device) (e) if Windows is low on hardware RAM and is working with a large virtual pool of RAM on the disk swapfile - you'd see increased disk activity during the bleed in such cases (f) if there is low disk space for the Windows swapfile (g) if messages for an application to redraw / re-render its own GUI space are delayed or intercepted (g) if one application flags its priority as higher than concurrent tasks (h) if an application enters a protracted piece of code that is marked as a "critical section" - think comms devices during handshake/authentication - for example using a RAS dialler during playing a mp3 in Windows media player will interrupt the mp3 playback.

Try decreasing screen display dimensions or colour resolution and see if this assists. I'd be throwing more RAM at the box as a first step.

David,

OI 7.0 fixes one major cause of this problem.

I don't think we have posted this yet on the beta site but we haven't seen any improvement in this area with the latest release.

Hmm….I just tried to reproduce this problem using the latest beta and was unable. At least I was unable to cause the problem with the bleed through in the MDI client window while a new MDI child window is being created. Is this the same bleed through you are experiencing?

Yes it is. In fact, this is the only way we have ever seen the bleed through effect. However, I have noticed that I don't easily get the problem to happen with the OI-based MDI tools (i.e. C/S Workspace, UI Workspace, RDK, etc.) but I think this is because they usually put up some kind of Open Dialog first. I believe this suppresses the problem.

I'll see if I can create a simple RDK for you.

Pat,

I'm still working on the RDK for you. It may be a while because we don't have any "simple" applications.

However, I have made an observation regarding this issue that might be helpful. First, your fix might be more successful than I had original thought. While the problem still happens for us, it does seem to happen less often. Second, I believe there is a direct connection with the location of the mouse pointer and where the bleed through affect happens. I can launch the same child window via an accelerator key and if the bleed through happens it always happens at the location of my mouse…assuming of course that in the same z-axis is a hover button from an application that is behind my MDI Frame. I believe Kevin Bolitho's post also addresses the mouse position issue. This is the first time I noticed such a direct connection.

Also, FWIW, I figured out how to replicate the problem using the OI-based MDI tools…use the MRU list. Therefore, if I follow the same steps Kevin describes, making sure my mouse is hovering over the location of a hover button, and then do Alt -] F -] 1 (to pull up my most recent document) the problem can appear. Sometimes I have to repeat this 5 to 10 times so just be patient with it.
