guys the font of the 'body' of this is small in comparison to the LHS column.

the tabular format makes it difficult to note that an article is a follow on to the topic prior to it - i.e. where's the indentation gone so that you can see the main article vs replies.

Hi, Martin. Yes, the font is kind of small - I'll see if we can fix that up in the style sheet tomorrow.

I'm not certain where you mean the indentation is gone - not in the "related threads", right?

Congratulations on a well executed transition.

On the various views all of the fields other than description could easily lose between a quarter and a third of their width. This would mean that description could be widened and avoid the need for wrapping in a lot of cases :smile:.

OK more cosmetics…. I really don't need all that screen real estate telling me where I am and since what date. Those three lines could be collapsed onto one line and the links at the bottom could be replaced with horizintal buttons. I'm more interested in seeing more topics :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Those lines at the top may come in handy when you have more ways to search - and, especially since the default is "show the last year of posts", you might be misled into thinking all the posts on a certain topic were displayed when they really weren't.

BTW, did you get the quotes to work for you yet?

Well the font could be nade smller then I guess. I run a three monitor setup, primary desktop 1920x1400, mail in secondary at 1920x1400 and browse in tertiary at 1280x1024. I lose about 1/3 of my screen to title :).I'm loather to try quotes as it is asking for a URL and all I wanted was to "quote" some text. If I wanted to link I'd assumed I could just use the standard link button?

At 13 JUL 2011 11:10AM bshumsky wrote:

The url is only if you want to let people click on the link and go directly to where you're quoting from - it's in "curly brackets" indicating that it's optional. Did you see the quote I put in my last response to you? All I did was specify the user name of "Andrew", and then copied and pasted between the tags.

I'll see if we can shrink those headers for you…

Hi Bryan,

It's nice to now be able to increase the size of text on the entries page. Would it be possible to have the column widths increase when the font size increases? I use a high resolution monitor (2560x1600) and after increasing the small text to a comfortable reading size, a lot of text wrapping occurs in the columns.

Nice job.

Thanks.

Hi, Don. Can't you "stretch" the browser window? The column widths should adjust as you make the Forum window bigger - are you not seeing that? I don't think there's any other way to make the column size increase, I'm afraid.

How about the date be in dd/mm/yy (Aus) way, rather than the 20 chars taking two lines

and the product column (col 2) - let's abbrev Openinsight 32bit to OI32 or even OI, you don't have 16 or 64 bit, so why bother with the bit?

the indents between replies run too wide for me, perhaps just 1 or 2 chars as now the 10th reply is wrapping itself around a 12 character column.

and, the save, exit, cancel button just below this box, rather that having to scroll to the bottom of the page..

Yes, the column widths adjust as I make the Forum window bigger, but the window has to be a very large portion (2/3) of the screen. However, this defeats the purpose of using a high resolution monitor to work on multiple documents at once.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of white space exists on either side of the O4W EditTable. Reducing the white space (a wider EditTable with wider columns) would probably alleviate most of the problem.

The same can be said about the amount of white space above and below the EditTable, which would allow more rows to be visible without having to scroll so much.

Would love a button that would create a compilation of all posts for the thread in a single webpage that I could scroll through and read at one time (rather than clicking on each reponse). Many are just short reponses and it is time-consuming to click through each to find the ones most helpful.

It is taking between 10-15 seconds to load the intial forum when clicking on 'OI 32-Bit by Date' under Works Discussion. Are you looking at performance? (Note: We are working on a 50 mb connection to the internet.)

When attempting to search by 'Author', I have to type in the exact name. I was hoping that if i entered "BLINK" it would select all with author containing BLINK since some of my posts are authored as 'MARY JEAN BLINK' and some are authored by 'MJ BLINK'.

Can we still look up posts prior to 7/18/2010?

Yes, in addition to feature enhancements and fixes, I'm sure we'll be "tweaking" the performance as much as possible.

You can either select an exact match from the drop-down list, or you can enter the author name in the textbox. The textbox search supports "QBF-like" syntax; the default is an exact ("=") search, but again this can be overridden.

So if you wanted to search for anything that contained "BLINK", what you'd put in the textbox is:

[] BLINK

If you wanted to search for any author name just ended with BLINK, you'd instead enter:

[ BLINK

Hope that helps,

Yes, all of the old forum postings have been brought over to the new system. Unfortunately, we don't have all the "side links" up yet that would give you all the options; I think all the ones that are currently shown will limit you to the last year.

To get the "Flat by Date" for all dates, you can use the following link:

Full forum listing of all dates

But please be patient - it may take some time (30-45 seconds) to generate the whole list. Once you've got the whole list of posts displayed, you can then search through them pretty rapidly.

<Side note>: The "Enter Search Text" box is not a "QBF-type" textbox; this supports a simpler syntax. If you enter multiple words, space delimited, they are by default treated as "AND"-ed together. You can use the literal words "AND" and "OR" to change that behavior, or you can quote the words to look for that specific phrase.

So:

 • Enter MARY JEAN BLINK into the "Enter Search Text" box, and you'll find all posts that have the words MARY, JEAN, and BLINK (not necessarily all together);
 • Enter "MARY JEAN BLINK" and you'll find all posts that have that explicit phrase;
 • Enter MARY OR JEAN OR BLINK and you'll get any posts that have any of those words

</Side note>

If you want to search all dates by category, you can use this link:

Category search for all dates

Again, over time I think we'll increase the number of ways you can generate or search the forum list; if you have any specific requests, please let me know and perhaps I can give you the "shortcuts" for them now.

Thanks!

At the top of the "Related Threads" section (if any), if there's more than one related post you'll now find a "Show thread summary" link. When selected, it will display all the posts in a single page.

Let me know what you think…

This will be MOST HELPFUL! Do you think you could add the date of the post next to the name of the poster?

Sorry, same day service is only available for O4W related issues :-)

When viewing the Works Forum items, could we add a column that would indicate how many posts are related to that thread? It would help to determine which one I open first when searching on a topic. Those with only 1 likely don't have a solution for me.

I see the number of 'replies' on the discussion list now - THANKS!. However, it is the number of replies to the original post. I'd really like to see how many posts are underneath it (how much chatter has happened). Often, people reply to another reply rather than the original. If others would rather just see replies, could we have a column for direct replies and one for total replies?

Hmmm, I suspected that was really what you wanted :-( That's ok, I'll just have to change the calculated field that determines that…And maybe change the column heading to be "#Posts/Topic" or something…
