I have the following problem:

When trying to run the Table Browser, I get the following error:

WOWEXEC

an error has occurred in your application…

After clicking on cancel, this error message displays:

One of the library files needed to run C:\OINSIGHT\TBLZ.EXE cannot load in the 16 bit Windows subsystem becasue it is a WIN32.DLL.

Has anyone else had this problem?. I noticed a similar post regarding Reporter, but no one answered. I do not get the error with Reporter.

I am running OI 4.0.2 on a Win2000 system.

Don,

Table Browser isn't supported any more. Even in OI16 it wasn't much cop. Don't know why Revelation haven't chucked it out altogether.

Don-

TBLZ is no longer supported. We don't even ship it any more- yours must be left over from 16-bit OI.

Dan,

I keep seeing posts about the old table browser often.

If you do not mind me asking (I am quite curious)… What do you use the table browser for?

And, would you be interested in using a routine I created that allows a user to "REVISE" rows (records) in a table (file).

It uses the dictionary to automatically build edittables for the single value and then edittables for the associated multi valued fields.

I find it very usefull for editing rows (records) in a table (file).

It uses the validation/conversion dictionary entry to validate the changes. Also allows the user to create a "@MODIFY" row (record) in the dictionary, and this "@MODIFY" row (record) controls the edittable column structures.

Unfortunately, it allows the user to edit one row at a time. Unlike the old table browser that displays all rows (records) in a table (file).

Thanks for the info. Actually, what I was thinking when I tried to run the Table Browser was that I was running the Table Builder, since I wanted to modify the data dictionary. I haven't worked in OI much for a while. It seems to me that Table Builder used to be on the main screen. Anyway, it (Table Builder) is accessible from the Database]Attributes menu.

It seems like the OI32 update should take Table Browser button off.

Iwould like to see your routine.

Mike,

Thanks for the info. I was really thinking I was running Table Builder, which is accessible from Database]attributes. I really don't need Table Browser.

Does your tool, which "uses the dictionary to automatically build edittables for the single value and then edittables for the associated multi valued fields" limited to development systems only? Or does it also work on Runtime systems?

Thanks-

Mike

It is interesting that Table Browser is no longer on the Tools menu, but still shows up on the side panel (at least on my system).

It seems to me that the items that show up on the side panel can be specified in the oinsight.ini file, but I forget the format and there doesn't seem to be anything specifying it in mine.

Don,

Remove the 7 from the list in the SideBarToolList entry.

The command SideBarToolList=3,4,1,2,5,11 doesn't make any difference on my system. It still comes up with:

Form Designer

System Editor

Database

Table Browser

Revelation Reporter

Report Builder

UI Workspace

Deploy

Changing the numbers doesn't make any difference.

Interestingly, If I go to Development]preferences, and then click OK, the side bar changes to:

Notes

Form Designer

System Editor

Reporter

UI Workspace

But only for that session.

Don,

Have got got more than one copy of the oinsight.ini file around? It should be in the Windows folder (which might or might not be called "Windows" on your system).

(Or could it be a case of duplicate entries in the file???)

Also make sure OI isn't running while you do the changes.

I just removed the 7 and the Table Browser button in my OI 4.0.3 went away.

Mike,

I only use it for my personal use within my development system. Have not deployed it as a runtime.

I am clear that it is not for runtime versions at this time (possibly might be doing processes that are not for runtime versions).

At the So Cal user group, I wanted to talk to you about using it for future runtime versions, and checking it to see if it is exceeding the licensing agreement. Although, your time was short and rushed.

See, I really developed it to modified rows in a table. Not the dictionaries. And since I have not gotten an approval from Revelation that it will not exceed the licensing agreement, it remains within my own development system and only my development system.

I only mentioned it here within the "Works" forum, kinda assuming that all here are developers, and I was wondering if anyone else has created something similar.

One example I use it for is to test a GL posting program. Once the item is posted, it updates a posted field in the row. And this program will allow me to use an active select list to change the posted flag back to unposted status. Especially when I am testing the posting of ohhhh about 5000 items.

And lastly… I really try extremely hard not to exceed the licensing agreements. I am sure you could ask your support team there at Revelation. I call quite often with questions verifying that I do not exceed the licensing agreements.

Oystein,

Thanks for the pointer. I was editing the oinsight.ini when OI was running. Never thought about the fact that it would over-write it when I closed down.

The complete list for the sidebar is:

1=Database

2=Table Builder

3=Form Designer

4=System Editor

5=UI Workspace

6=Reporter

7=Table Browser

8=Report Builder

9=Lotus Notes

10=Notes Registration

11=Deploy

12=C/C Workspace

I think that's how all ini files work (read at startup and written back when the program is closed). Or worked. They are going out of fashion now.

I would find it very useful for testing(reseting) on a development system.

Barry,

I will communicate with Revelation about this REVISE program I created. I want to be sure it is not breaking any licensing agreements ( Mike Ruane's post). I will let you know the outcome.
