I hope someone has seen this or something like it before. After a recent upgrade of software and hardware I have noticed that OpenInsight comes to a crawl during specific tasks. If I am in a field with a validation and I enter an incorrect value I leave the field and then the error message comes up that says the value entered must be within the range specified by the validation. This works but it is extremely slow, and it just started operating slowly. When I exit the field it is 8 seconds until I see the error message. Once I click OK to the error message it is 10 seconds until I am returned to the field with the invalid data. I can then put in the correct value and move on at normal speed. This same response times happen when I go into the debugger. It is impossible to step through a program, because every step takes 6-10 seconds. Everything else seems to function at it's normal speed.

The problem only happens when Microsoft Outlook is running. Closing Outlook doesn't correct the problem, but choosing to EXIT AND LOG OFF MS Outlook does correct the problem.

Has anyone seen this before or anything like it? Is anyone running MS Outlook 98 successfully with OpenInsight? Any information would be appreciated.

It is probably the Mail client part of Outlook that is causing the slowdown. Try adjusting the frequency of the mail lookup. It is very possible that the mail client is having problems finding the server. If this is the case it may be because DNS (or WINS) resolution is being hampered.

Firstly try to ping the server from the workstation to ensure IP connection. Then (assuming Win32) check that network DNS settings are correct - very often this means disabling DNS and that is ussually performed by the NT box that runs Exchange Server or Mail Server that Outlook is trying to connect to.

I'm running MS Outlook, internet mail only though, no exchange server, at least yet. No problems whatsoever.

There used to be a problem where MSG was real slow if the system monitor was open. Closing it made a huge difference. This was fixed in 3.3 or 3.2 or something way back when.
