Before I invest the effort (being lazy) I was wondering if someone could let me know if my plan is feasible:

1. We have Works and a copy of OI 3.7 developer & Web Deployment Pack.

2. We want to get to OI32 (that's version 4)

3. So I can apply the following upgrades to our 3.7

   a. 4.01 Upgrade (don't need all the 3.7x intermediate upgrades)
   b. 4.13 Upgrade

We can ignore the Web Deployment pack, since OI32 includes those components, we can create/run web apps without the WDP.

Our expectation is that jobs that run in 3-4 hours on our Arev product, will run in x-y hours (minutes?) on OI32, where x-y is less than 3-4!!! And that by figuring this out on OI v4, we will likely see similar results with OI v7 since v4 uses same/similar LH code as v7? Or would OI v7 be even faster? GASP! So it's so!

Only if you use dynamic non persistent engines. Otherwise the WDP is still required. The relaxation in licensing is designed more to assist small extranets than production web sites.

We've seen a speed increase on identical processes of up to 30% on the same network drivers going from AREV to 32 bit OI.

OI7 is unlikely to be significantly faster than 4.

Ah - WDP still required for larger site…good to know that!

RTI - Is there an upgrade for WDP for 16 to 32 bit? Or do we have to buy another?

Is my upgrade path dream on-track? Can I skip all of the intermediate steps 3.7 (3.72, 3.73, …) and upgrade from 3.7 to 4.02? Then I can upgrade from 4.02 to 4.12 OR all the baby-steps inbetween required?

Ralph-

3.7 to 4.0.2 is Good.

4.0.2 to 4.1.3 is good.

New WDP required. Contact us or your local reseller for pricing.

Thanks

THANKS!

It occurs to me that we have 'Upgrade Confusion…' and 'Call Me Dumb..' posts right together.

What's with these old guys, who are Confused and Dumb?

Michael,

Would it be possible where you can get a 'new' version of the product and cancel the old one. For example those of us who have an old version that IF we have to rebuild takes 43 GAZILLION upgrades

So if I had serial number 12341234 on version 3x and had paid up to next release .. could i get a new disk with base level 7 on it?

What you are asking, and is very desireable, is to be able to transfer your license number (manually by direct entry) to a new, clean, prestine, fresh build.

Yeah we love the idea.

We're planning on shipping both a 7.0 install and 7.0 upgrade on the next Works CD.

That should handle both situations, no?
