I install UD 4.6 on SBS2008 R2. Install seemed to go ok, SERVICES.MSC showed service up and running. Client install on OI 7.11 on XP sp3 workstations didn't see the service.

I restarted the server but now it won't restart - BSOD with a stop at 0x000000F4 (didn't get full message). Trying to restart in safe mode goes back to same BSOD.

I was able to boot off the SBS2008 install CD and deleted the REVSOFT directory from the command prompt but system still will not restart.

Any ideas?

Note: is the setup 64 bit?

I think the LinearHash service is a red herring (your problem is elsewhere). We have a 2008 R2 server in our own office as the primary file server and there are no reports of other problems like this at other installations. The LinearHash service doesn't modify the operating system at the kernel level and if you can't get into the system using safe mode that means the kernel isn't running properly.

Is it possible the machine installed new drivers while it was running? Check with the server manufacturer for hardware/driver support.

Hi Jared

Before I restarted the server there was a notification that updates were available from Microsoft but I didn't initiate download/update.

It's a HP ProLiant server, HP support wanted a few firmware updates installed. Microsoft support was unable to get it going either.

The vendor had neglected to create a recovery CD (Symantec Backup Exec). Even though Symantec has downloadable recovery images to use the vendor wants to reinstall the OS from scratch. Seems to me if you're going to reformat the drives anyway what do you have to lose by running the "generic" recovery disc. If it works it would probaly a lot less time consuming, especially if I don't have to recreate all the user profiles and group policies from scratch. Whatever, the server wasn't live yet. We were planning on cutting it over today but that probably won't happen until Weds now.

Symantec Anti-Virus is also installed on the server. I've already excluded .ov and .lk from the scans but what else needs to be set for the UD 4.6?

Thanks

Nothing else comes to mind, you should be ready to go.

I assume you've set your REVPARAM files properly and installed the client network driver (if it wasn't already included in OpenInsight).

Hi Jared

We got the server rebuilt this morning. It takes forever to install all the updates - shutdown, reboot consumes a lot of time. Whew!

I got everything installed and it looks like I had to open the default port 777 in the advanced firewall settings on both the server and the workstations.

It also looks like a defective DVD burner hosed the CD so the only readable file is the client setup. Fortunately I had installed the server files and copied the AREV client setup zip before using the bad drive. I'll call to see about replacing the files.
