Does OI access the C: drive at all?

If so, is it possible to make it use another drive (like in AREV) for whatever functions those are?

Wayne,

Are you referring to sort folders and the like? If so, then OI can be configured similar to the way AREV is. Look at the Database Manager menu: Database -] Environment Settings. You will see the default directories for Sort Path and Data Path.

Yup, that's the sort of thing I'm aware of. I'm wondering if there are any things that I'm not aware of that might be accessing the C: drive. Even after directing the sort files somewhere else, would there be anything left trying to look at the C: drive. How about in the login process? Is the source of the information that allows it to prompt the last account used kept on the C: drive? And if the command line is used to specify the account to log into, would that C: access be bypassed entirely?

Basically, what it comes down to is: Is it possible to run OI if there is no C: drive?

Wayne,

I hope others will chime in. I know the OINSIGHT.INI file is used to store information such as last account. If it is missing from the local drive then it will be created. Now, I do not know what happens if that file is unable to be created at all (which might be the case if there is no C: drive.)

The OIPI also updates the Registry (at least it did in OI16) the first time it is used.

I take it that you aren't really concerned about the drive letter itself but rather the existence of a local drive, correct? Might I ask how this type of situation would exist?

Hi Don,

This has absolutely nothing to do with the current thread, but I wanted to welcome you back to the boards..you have been missed.

Hi Gray,

Well thank you very much. It feels good to be back. I should also take this time to thank Steve Botes for updating this community with my whereabouts and situation. Unfortunately we are still dealing with our problem. However, life must move forward and getting back into my "routine" is a very therapeutic way of coping.

Looking forward to seeing you next month!

The company wants to put our transaction processors unto computers where the C: drive will be read-only, at least, and maybe not accessible at all. In the read-only scenario, it may be that we can update the registry and initialize the .INI file before they turn on the lock. But I'm not sure of the specifics at this point. I only know they will be in a different city and we cannot write to any C: drive.
