Are my questions unanswerable? (None Specified)

Hello all
I've been converting my Arev App to OI for a few months now, and I am in the troubeshooting stage. I've asked the following questions on the OI Forum with no response, so I'm now asking here
1 .
Arev allows you to access the Query Table by pressing the keys from various points including the TCL line. This is very useful if you want to see how many hits a select process has had and re-select it etc.
Is there an equivalent somewhere in OI?
I've looked, I've asked but so far I haven't found
Thanks in Advance
1.B
Also can you have an active select in an edit line and then type the equivalent of "edit 'TABLE_NAME'" and then step through the selected records? It was a great data testing tool in Arev.
2.
In June 1998, Greg James asked
"I am unable to specify validation patterns or select a validation pattern option for an edit table. All information in the validation portion of the window is 'grayed' out. I am able, however, to enter a conversion pattern and select conversion pattern options for the same edit tables. The problem occurs on all my forms. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here? Thanks."
Guess What, so am I - He didn't get an answer, Does anybody know why.
Like him, I am using Windows '95 OSR2
By The way, regardless of what conversion is entered, the table doesn't apply it anyway.
The Column in the table is not tied to any database.
Help Please

Regarding your second question, I think you may have discovered a feature I have had to work around too. From the Edit Table Properties Dialog box, and with the column in question highlighted, look at the Default combo box. If it is set to ], change it to ], or vice versus. Then click the Edit button and you will be able to change validation patterns.

Thanks for the tip Blair, but it didn't work in my case.
I did notice that it wouldn't let me change the default from ] to ]. I mean, I changed the setting, but if I went to edit or tried to save, when I returned it was back to ]. It wouldn't let me change the MD2 to MTH or D either in the Conversion section either.
Any other tips would be greatfully accepted.

This is how it is on one of three computers I tested today. To be more exact: The Validation controls seem to be protected. The Validation Options box is grayed out. The Validation Pattern box is not. Neither can get focus.
And the trick with the Default combo does not work. Can we have a comment from Revelation? The information in Revelation's SPR database (see Cameron Purdy's posting http://www.revelation.com/THEWORKS/OIdiscuss.nsf/ef8405490de3608f85256700005245e4/763ee7c76464e9ac8525672b0083be1d?OpenDocument) doesn't agree with your and my observations. It's not just on NT, and the trick doesn't always work.
By the way, regardless of what conversion is entered, the table doesn't apply it anyway.
I haven't tried if the conversion really is applied. (What I seemed to notice was that the value I keyed in or selected did not stick. If I went back in the Conversion/Validation/Display dialog later the value was still ]. But later again I was unable to reproduce the error, so for now I'll have to assume the fault was all mine.)
Like him, I am using Windows '95 OSR2
The three computers I tested run NT 4 WS Service Pack 3, 95 OSR2 and 98. Here the problems are on the NT workstation and not on 95 OSR2 and 98.
I run OI 3.61.

I don't think so. I believe you have to craft your own tools. But if you look in SYSLIST (Sys Ed - File | Open Row) there's a row Q*something that contains a list of recent queries. The result lists themselves are in W*something rows. Long lists are split over several W rows - W*something, W*something*1, W*something*2, etc. But I assume it's the same in Arev (perhaps with a different row numbering for long lists). I apologize if you know all about it already.

Again I believe you have to make your own tools. If you have a form bound to a table, and search that table, you can stuff the result list in the QBFLIST property of the form, and browse back and forth with F3, F4, etc.
But I don't think you can browse in OI's editor - the System Editor.

Is there an equivalent to the Arev Query Table function in OpenInsight? A. I am assuming that you want to implement Query Table (Shift F2) not Query Filter which is (Control-10). I am confused because one response was talking about filters and qeury results being stored in SYSLISTS the other responses appear to address the ability to put Validation patterns on an Edit Table. If I am going the wrong way on this - help me by specifying exactly what you need. There is no direct equivalent to Query Table in OpenInsight. In Advanced Revelation Query Table enables you to change the view of a data entry screen from an individual record to a table showing multiple records (normally in a browse list) at the same time. I say there is no direct equivalent, because the OI Form tool does not provide a simlar function. However, there is a similar capability in OpenInsight, this tool is called the Table Browser. In Table Browser you can view records (most commonly after you have issued a SELECT) and view the data in a table form. The major differences is the Arev Table mode would execute the pre-post prompt processes and any additional custom logic held in the data entry form - Table Browser does not. This appears when you are attempting to replicate this function by implementing form login in an edit table(eg.validation patterns ) there is a problem with selecting an a Validation setting. I have run into the following, which may be a bug: 1. Drop in an edit table 2. Double click the edit table 3. Click on Edit (Validation Pattern) 4. Try to change Validation Pattern - everything greyed out. But if I - 1. Drop in an edit table 2. Double click the edit table 3. Click on "DEFAULT" and either set it to something or NONE 4. Try to change Validation pattern - it is no longer greyed out. Therefore it should be a simple work around - and it has been entered into our bug system. " Q. Is there an equivalent to the ability to edit against an active "SELECT" A. No - I would follow Oystein suggestion in creating your own utility to do this. </QUOTE> —- === At 23 NOV 1999 04:36PM Oystein Reigem wrote: === <QUOTE>Revelation, I'm almost certain I tried the workaround exactly as you describe it, and variations described by others, and still more variations of my own. My orignal posting in this area involve combining two totally different postings in the OI forum that were never answered. Basically There are two Problems 1. Greyed out Validation - why does it happen on some computers and not others. Is it DLLs or what, this problem/bug is really annoying me. See various postings from Oystein, Andrew McAuley and myself in this thread. 2. The Query table. I'll try and be clearer about this. if you press at the command line in Arev, you get "filter selections". The second item is Query table. It lists Time/Date, Query, Hits. You can select any of the stored queries and it will become the active select. Is there such a feature in OI? The thing that interests me the most is the "Hits". This helps me check if a select has been successful when trying to troubleshoot/debug. You mentioned the "Table Browser" - I'm not to clear with your explanation, where do I find documentation on it? But I'll try to do it tidy. Table Browser: In my OI 3.61 I have Table Browser in the vertical row of buttons to the left, at the very bottom. I assume you haven't got it, or you wouldn't have asked. The vertical button row can be customized, though. Edit your Oinsight.ini file (Windows folder). In the Application Manager section of Oinsight.ini there's a SideBarToolList entry. In my Oinsight.ini file I have SideBarToolList=1,2,3,4,5,7 From that I conclude that Table Browser is tool no 7. So just include 7 in your list. Generally, when there's a tool missing in the vertical button row you can find it in the Tools menu instead. But at least in my version Table Browser is not there. Now the bad news: Table Browser is somewhat buggy and not supported. I suggest you search the discussion lists for "Table Browser" to learn more. - Oystein - </QUOTE> —- === At 26 NOV 1999 03:48AM Oystein Reigem wrote: === <QUOTE>Claude, Query Table: I think the responses were: You have to make that tool yourself.
