APPBACKUP (OpenInsight 16-Bit)

We are currently undertaking a project of setting up a new install set of one of our products and are getting some pretty bizarre behaviour, we are currently still running OI 3.7.
We have started with a brand new OI3.7 installation from CD and are running it all on one local hard disk on an XP (SP3) PC. We created the application and then run APPBACKUP to restore. The process instantly brought the debugger up in RTP27 with the error message "SYS1000: Error loading programme "REV_LOADREC"". We swapped oengine for one our existing 1 user ones - same problem. So we then swapped it for a 2 user engine and bingo all works fine.
Even more puzzling is that looking closely at this installation whatever the user count of the engine we use, it reports itself as a 1 user count in engine info but NETDRV reports the user count correctly. Have I entered the twilight zone I wonder

Any observations on what might be going would be gratefully received.

I received REV_LOADREC errors when I used a rather slow ZipDrive as the source of the AppBACKUP tables.

In this case everything is running from the local hard drive - I don't think this is the issue.

Did you browse to the folder?
If so, try typing in the folder location. We found that it works correctly if you don't browse.
Not sure if this was fixed in OI 32 but we definitely found this in OI16.
Please reply if it works or not.

Marc,
Some (possibly irrelevant) sugestions -
1. Check path - should conform to the old DOS rules ie no namespace, upto 8 character, not root of drive.
2. Do not use Appbackup to restore Application files - rather do the Add Table in the Database Manager.
3. Verify your shortcuts, if running from shortcut.
4. If OI System crashes, check tasks running to make sure that you have evicted OI from memory before rebooting AND in XP possibly set shortcut to run in separate memory space - thus if crashes is easier to get rid of.
5. Confirm that the OI System is good by doing a LH_Verify etc.

I've had that message when the DBT file gets corrupted.
I'd just copy another copy over the top of the application one.
eg: copy backup.dbt appname.dbt

Thanks for the suggestions I will try and answer them:_
]]1. Check path -
Path OK not an issue
]]2. Do not use Appbackup to restore Application files
N/A unchecked
]]3. Verify your shortcuts
No differenec also as mentioned appbackup works with other oengines
]]4. If OI System crashes
As matter of form we always reboot
]]5. Confirm that the OI System is good by doing a LH_Verify
Not done this - as it works with other versions of the engine I assumed it was not an issue but will do so and let you know if it shows any results
]]I've had that message when the DBT file gets corrupted
Again not tried but as above surely this would affect any running of OI?
]]Did you browse to the folder?
Browse and type in path - no difference.

Further speculative suggestions (based on your initial description)
1. Check driver (especially if issues multi-user v single user)
2. If importing, hopefully the Appbackup hasnt come from CD (read only issue, rights)
3. Have you done a SCAN_REP. ALLWAYS do a Scan_Rep before RDK_Extract. Perhaps same for AppBackup.

1. Check driver
No problem there
2. If importing, hopefully the Appbackup hasnt come from CD
No
3. Have you done a SCAN_REP. ALLWAYS do a Scan_Rep before RDK_Extract.
Haven't done this but surely it can't relate to the problem as putting a 2 user oengine file solves the problem?

Could these postings be relevant?
If so, upgrade to 3.7.1.
