What is the best method of creating a hybrid environment. Keeping our runtime users and Dev environments seperate.

My thinking is simply a seperate directory for developer DLLs and then 'startup' in the standard directory.

I don't think i have seen anyting 'official' documented .. or even just suggestions .. so thought I would ask

Dave,

For future reference:

When you upgrade the system, you will have to remember to move the DLL's and Exe's to under OINSIGHT before starting the process. You will need to do this for both Develop and Runtime.

FWIW

The Universal Driver 3.x lets you use a revparam which points to rev files

With UD3, you create a REVPARAM like

ServerOnly=1

ServerName=oiserver

TcpIpPort=7778

NamedPipeName=None

ShareName=REPOSITORY

I believe that you could have a single application server, with SAMBA shares so it can be seen by windows and Linux clients

\Revsoft

 \WinRun
 \WinDev
 \LinRun
 \LinDev
 \LinHome
 \Repos

In WinRun and WinDev, have the appropriate binaries (exe, dlls) and the REVPARAM file like above.

You also need the .DBT files, the Revboot file , and the BMPS subdirectory

In LinHome, have the REVPARAM file like above.

You also need the DBT, Revboot, and the BMPS subdirectory

In \repos, have a revparam with SERVERONLY=1 plus all of the REV*. files from a standard OI install.

The registry entries for the UD3 Share REPOSITORY should point to this subdirectory

With this configuration I believe that upgrades would run correctly without having to copy files around. This biggest issue is that you need a script to replicate the .DBT and BMP files to each location.

Note that the Repos files do not need to be on the same server as the binaries. In theory you could distribute the binaries, but use a single repository. License counts would still be enforced.

Now this is useful. If I can ever get SAMBA to work between my Linux and Windows boxes, I'll be all set.

Samba through Debian Sarge install worked right from the install.

Can't say installing other servers went so smooth (exim4 for example), or even VNC, but Samba…right off the wires.

vnc only takes seconds .. samba .. a lifetime
