Does anyone know a good approach to creating a Demo Applicaiton. I know in AREV they used to have a way you could create a Runtime that would "time-out" after a certain number of days. Is this available with OI or is this something the developer has to create?

Thanks,

Donald,

It depends on the type of demo-ware you want to create. Should it be a fully-functional yet time-limited application or should it be a mock-application that appears like the real thing? For the former we've used an old program that used to come with InstallShield called TimeLock. They don't distribute it anymore but there are other similar programs like it. For the latter you could use DemoShield, another product from InstallShield. Again, there are similar products that you may like better.

You could always build a time-limiting feature within OpenInsight itself. We've never done it but we know others who have. Two basic approaches are: 1.) Tracking by date, or 2.) Tracking by number of times the application is used. Each has its inherent strengths and weaknesses.
