Loading UNIVERSAL client into AREV (Network Product)

Starting with a fresh install of my AREV runtime, I triedto install the UNIVERSAL driver for the client. First, I copied the \Client\Arev directory from the UD CD to my local hard drive and removed ReadOnly.
When I start AREV INSTALL and choose Install/Upgrade, I get the error message,
"Error: cannot fine the log record on the disk in drive "C:". This is not a valid install disk."
I think I have done this install before; now I just can't seem to get it to work.

Did you try copying everything to a diskette? Many AREV upgrade/install processes insisted on running from a floppy drive.
To get around it, try using assign/subst commands or mapped root drives (depending on the OS or network used).

Karen,
I copied the directories to my local hard drive and removed the readonly attribute. AREV and OI cannot work with readonly files on a CD, contrary to the published instructions in the manuals for the network products.

I know (about the RO problem).
It also seldom works to use a directory on C: as a source drive - move the files/subdirectories to a diskette or use ASSIGN to fool AREV into thinking that they are on A: or B: (or any other drive letter, but so that the log file is in the root or \AREV directory – one or the other is required, but it's been a while since I ran it).

Bob Orsini clarified this for me. AREV 2.12 needs to use A:, as Karen says. For 3.12, copy the CLIENT directory to C:, not just the AREV directory, and clear the ReadOnly setting. Then when AREV asks for a directory, enter C:\Client. AREV knows to look in the AREV folder within Client…
