Data import via the Internet (General)

However we are looking for other methods to get data into ARev / OI via the Internet, either through a CSV or XML file.
The simplest way perhaps would be to have the customer ftp the file to our server and ARev / OI to scan for updates and import the files.
Not being familiar with the XML capabilities in OI I have to wonder if there is a more elegant solution using XML.
Any thoughts?
