Upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.2 to 7.2.1. From the editor, I attempted to compile a program from my PROGRAMS table. I get message SYS1244, "The script contains an invalid character." After opening the Stored Procedure and pasting the PROGRAMS record over it, I could compile the same program listing BUT ONLY AS A STORED PROCEDURE. Well, this is a major pain. Was this a requested feature?

Don't get me wrong. I have the highest regard for the effort at Revelation Software, and OI has become to quality development tool I wanted it to be. It is a rare case that something is done that I do not expect or appreciate. But I see a huge code versioning and maintenance issue looming for me with this change. It means having to maintain two sets of source code, which is a recipe for disaster.

Open SYSENV CFG_PRECOMPILER or similar. See if there is an entry in line one mentioning BACKCOMPAT or similar. Remove it if there is. Save. Exit OI. Try again.

Opened SYSENV CFG_PRECOMPILER in system editor. Removed BACK_COMPAT_PRECOMPILE from line 1 (that's all there is in the record). Saved, restarted OI. Still cannot recompile programs from a table other than SYSPROCS. But, thanks for the effort.

This is the editor you get from the "System Editor" button on the Application Manager. There's a different editor?

If from the system monitor you run the following command:

EXEC EDITOR

Is that the same editor you're talking about?

Using the new editor, the statement

COMPILE FUNCTION program( parms )

fails with "Error B102, Line B102: unknown error," or some such.

The statement "FUNCTION program( parms )" compiles. The possible unassigned variables checking is much improved, by the way.
