Is it safe to run multiple instances of OI (1 runtime and 1 dev) on the same PC. The PC is running NT, OI is installed on a Novell server.

Can we run AREV in a DOS session at the same time? (Our OI application is a migration of the AREV app., and shares a number of tables)

Many thanks in advance.

Andrew,

Except under very obscure circumstances it is not possible to run more than one instance of OpenInsight on your PC. You can, however, run the runtime engine on one machine and a developer engine on another for the same application and data components.

You can run AREV and OI at the same time on the same machine, we do it all the time. However, we find that AREV slows OI's performance down considerably - especially when attempting to switch from the AREV screen to an OI screen.

[notag]Hey Andrew!

Well I do it on NT m/cs all the time - just run in protected memory space. The only problem is that whilst a FindWindow will look "within" protected space first it will then look [<I>across</I>] all memory if it doesn't find what it is looking for. This is not that big a problem though.

I use this to work on SYSPROG and an app at the same time.

We are looking to replace a number of DOS PCs running an AREV application with a single NT PC running instances of OI. We are NOT trying to exceed our license #, we just have a number of PCs-on-a-card which are not upgradable. The card-type PCs are tied into modems and we want to run the multiple port modem equivalent on NT (single box if possible). Is there not some command line argument for opening multiple sessions against a single OpenEngine? It seems to say so in the error message you get when you accidently try opening OI again. </QUOTE> View this thread on the Works forum...
