Hi -

A few years back when I was on OI 9 i was unable to succesfully use - i think what was the combox option

I am now using OI 10.1

What I am after is instead of selecting one of the options in the listbox dropdown - I just want to key in a value.

Can O4WListboix do that or is there another control or plugin ?

Hi, Brian. I'm not sure I understand what you're after, exactly.

Are you looking to just key in a free-form value? That would be a textbox, then.

If you wanted to limit it to one of selection, then yes, that would be a listbox.

Or are you looking for both? Select something from a list, OR key in something new? There are some plugins that have that functionality, but I usually default to having a listbox and a textbox - labeled something like "Please choose one of the following" <then the listbox> "or enter the new value" <then the textbox>

Hi, Brian. Because O4W is based on jQuery, any jQuery plugin (or any "plain JavaScript" plugin, as well) can work with it. If you look in your OpenInsight folder, O4W subfolder, there will be a directory called "Plugins" that shows all the plugins we (RevSoft) have included in the distribution, but you are free to search and apply any other plugins.

You didn't answer my question, though, about what you are trying to achieve. If I understand what you were asking for, I might be able to provide more concrete answers.

Thanks,

its all about limiting controls on a page - i.e. convoluted pages confusing the consumer.

Here is an in-house example:

all my files use an non-descript internal recordid (a few letters and some unique number)

all my files also have a key or keys that when entered in they find the unique internal recordid via btree.extract.

One of those files is a domain file that has a domain owner field and a domain name that the owner owns.

The way I want it to work is have a domain owner listbox - and if the owner does not exist - I can still key it into the listbox.

And if the owner does exist and second listbox will be populated with the domains he owns that I manage for traffic/promotion purposes. And if he has a new domain to add to that list that can be keyed into that second listbox.

And upon lostfocus on the second listbox - a lookup AND validation is performed and any new internal recordids are created for the domain file and the domain owner file.

Instead - what I do now have a button that brings up my own "PICKER" webpages for domains and domain owners with extra fields for creating new entries

And taking this in-house example to a consumer level - they will just get confused.

I see all the Pugins - but have no clue what they do - as i did not see any readme files for the ones I looked at.\tx\Bri

I assume you have looked at OpenInsight 10.0 O4W 2.0 Reference Guide.pdf in the documents folder
