OI 7.1 PDF Files (OpenInsight 32-Bit)

A customer has reported not being able to open a PDF file generated by OI 7.1 with Acrobat Reader v7.0. The same file can be opened using Acrobat v6.0, but not 7. The document properties for the file show it's a pdf file version 3.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Is an update in the wings?
Thanks,
Matthew Jones.

What is "the very near future"?
A week? A month? What?

Richard,
If I knew the date I would have told you, but I don't so I didn't. All I know is that v7.1.1 is due sometime soon. You'll have to ask Revelation for the official word and I'm sure they will let us all know as soon as they have a date themselves.

A customer of mine has been printing thousands of pdf per week using OIPI and OI 3.75. The files report to be pdf version 1.2.
Just tried to use an email to fax solution and discovered that all pages were rendered as blank, but only when I used pdf created via OI.
The pdf shows the proper contents via Acrobat Reader 6. When I downloaded AR 7.0 I, too, discovered that it shows the OI pdf files as blanks. Internet search shows others have the same problem.
Is there perhaps a dll that needs to be updated that would work in the OI v 3? Can't quickly update to v7.1.1…

One of our customers has suggested Foxit PDF Reader as an answer to various OI 7 PDF problems. We haven't looked into this ourselves, but we see no reason to doubt him.

Although a good temporary work-around .. isn't that like telling a client .. yeah we do XLS files but you have to use OpenOffice to read them

Maybe..maybe not..
Depends on the how and the why of the the problem.
If Abobe changed things so they're not backwards compatible, then yes.
If the PDF's OIPI creates are invalid, but previously acceptable, then no.
It depends on the why of the problem, and I don't know why all of sudden there are all these PDF problems with Adobe 7, and at this point, I'm not going to update my system to Adobe 7. That could explain why the customer was having troubles reading the PDFs that I could read.

which is Yes why it is a good work-around and Yes it needs investigation.
If Adobe is no longer backward compatabile it might still be necessary to make sure the control being used is upgraded. Simple fact is as new computers come out they will be packaged 'at some point' with the newer version of adobe. At that time compatability will be important.

I have found the following with pdf's and OI 7.0. I make pdf's in OI and then email to customers. For those customers using ISP's like AOL, the pdf's do not open or come thru blank. Files made from Acrobat work perfectly. Therefore, something is wrong with the third-party software used in OI.
You might want to try making your pdf's with Acrobat to see if you have a similar problem.

Guys-
I know this is fixed in 7.1.1, of which I just made the first upgrade and full install builds.
We're going to roll this out to beta testers, and hopefully release on 15 April.
Thanks-
Mike

I don't think they need to be sent anywhere. A pdf that renders OK using Acrobat Reader 6, is blank when rendered using Acrobat Reader 7!

When I replaced the vspdf.ocx and vsprint7.ocx in the client (desktop) \system32 with those updated files, I was able to create pdf that correctly rendered in Adobe Reader 7. This is OI 3.75 and OIPI.
